URBANESQUE: WATERCOLOR WITH INK | 8 Images
By the early 2000's, Erlich developed another set of watercolors that combined elements of her old serigraphs with bold color. The paintings portray the viviacity and tumult of modern American cities. Several are wildly-colored, criss-crossed compositions portraying the chaos of big cities. As always, Erlich began these works with an idea fragment and only a little sense of what the work might look like when finished. She said: "When the lines start to form character and identity, it can get pretty exciting. This is the beginning. This is the time for some decisions to be made: color, composition, enhancing the forms with a light pattern. And I am on my way."
