CONSTRUCTIONS: WATERCOLOR AND SHAPED PAPER | 7 Images

In the late 1990's Erlich developed a new series of watercolors combined with construction paper. A number of the pieces reflect nature's forces while others are more whimsical, reminiscent things such as beach scenes. Some years before she started the series, she had taken paper to a factory that made curtains. She asked the owner to put the paper through the pleating machines. She had a seemingly inexhaustible supply of symmetrically folded paper.  At that time, she didn't know what she was going to use it for, but she knew it would be something for her art. Eventually it was that paper that she was able to cut, color and turn into a new series.
